A heritage observance remembering the October 7, 1928 crowning of Ras Tafari Makonnen as Negus—King—of Ethiopia.

On September 27, 1916, Tafari Makonnen was proclaimed Crown Prince and heir apparent to the Ethiopian throne and appointed Regent Plenipotentiary. This marked a decisive stage in his rise to leadership and in the continuity of Ethiopian sovereignty.
Historical distinction: September 27 commemorates his proclamation and regency. He was crowned Negus on October 7, 1928 and Emperor Haile Selassie I on November 2, 1930.
The next generation carries the culture forward.
